Celebrating 50 Repairs
Revitalizing Homes through Our Critical Repairs Program
We did it! Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County has repaired over 50 homes. More than 20 of those homes have been in South County.
To commemorate the occasion, let’s take a look at our repair program’s inception.
In 2011, our affiliate joined Habitat International’s Neighborhood Revitalization initiative, a holistic program that focused on partnership with volunteers, homeowners, neighbors and local organizations to help serve people in remote areas. The program emphasizes that, for families to succeed, sometimes the dynamics of their neighborhoods have to change. Through research and feedback from our community, we decided to focus our efforts on south county, where we saw an enormous need for home repairs.
Thirteen years later, our repair program is flourishing. Today, we are simultaneously working on around 7 repair projects scattered throughout East Jefferson County. We’re helping families whose homes have affected their health and safety. With the completion of each repair, we empower them to safely stay in their homes for at least another 5 years. Usually, though, its much longer.
That being said, we continuously accept applications for critical home repair projects, particularly in Quilcene and Brinnon. If you are a homeowner having trouble making necessary repairs, we may be able to help. To become a repair partner, you must own and occupy a home in East Jefferson County, have trouble making necessary repairs, and be willing to partner with Habitat. Income requirements may apply. We offer a confidential free home repair assessment, no-interest loans and loan payment deferral for as long as you own your home.
Does that appeal to you? Call our office at (360) 379-2827, email us at info@habitatejc.org or click the button below to schedule a repair program orientation.
Group Builds
Together We Build a Stronger Community
This year, Habitat has seen an incredible influx of support from businesses and others through our Group Builds. Volunteers have dedicated full or half days to working on our construction sites, often collaborating with our regular volunteers to make significant progress. Notably, a group from St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church participated in a group build, while teams from First Fed and Astound spent their community spirit days contributing to our projects. First Fed even extended their efforts to include volunteer work in the Habitat Store, showcasing a remarkable commitment to Habitat’s work.
The enthusiasm for our Group Builds doesn’t stop there. We have also welcomed groups of Women Builders and Pride Builders, all coming together to support affordable housing in our community. These efforts highlight the diverse and unified spirit of our volunteers. If you’re interested in scheduling a group build for your employees, church congregation, friends, or family, please reach out to us at volunteer@habitatejc.org. We would love to arrange a fun and impactful day of building together.
