Judy spent this February snug and warm in her cabin by the river in Brinnon, despite the record-breaking snow and cold.  Things could have been very different, however.  “By the grace of God,” her ductless heat pump was installed on January 29, just in the nick of time.  Before that, she was dependent on her baseboard heaters, and the house was always chilly.  “You will find no one more grateful than I.  I could cry.  All this cold spell, if I had had to go without heat, I don’t know what I would have done. Now it’s so warm, it’s glorious.”

Judy’s Brinnon home had septic repairs and a new heat pump installed by Habitat.

Judy will work in the Quilcene Habitat Store to help raise money for more repairs as part of her sweat equity agreement.

Good timing characterized Judy’s entire Habitat repair.  When she first contacted Habitat, it was because her septic system had been flagged by the county.  New risers were required to make the system safe, but Judy was not sure how she could afford them.  While she was still working out the details with Habitat, she received a letter giving her thirty days to make the critical repairs. Thankfully, Habitat was able to get the risers installed by the deadline.

Judy will pay back part of the cost of project through no-interest loan from Habitat.  Judy also is happy for the chance to give back through volunteer work at the Habitat Store in Quilcene.  “It is a lovely store,” she says.  “So friendly and warm and set up so nice.”  This repair was made possible by Repair Program Sponsor First Federal Community Foundation and the Habitat Quilcene Store volunteers.
