Let’s Open Doors
Dear friends,
It’s the stories that plant themselves deep in my heart.
Recently Bill shared his. It was during a gathering to launch three families into their new lives as Habitat homeowners.
As a child in rural Tennessee, Bill’s family lost their home to a tornado. Neighbors showed up to help them build a new home. That experience formed the conviction that still animates Bill
today: when neighbors help neighbors, communities are born and doors are opened. It also motivated Bill and his wife Ann to sponsor the home where Derrick will raise his own child, where community and neighbors and love will have the run of the house.
Bill’s conviction of the importance of neighbors helping neighbors guides our work every day. This year, we built a new six home neighborhood – the Cliff Street Cottages – built through the collective effort of volunteers, skilled crews, and homebuyer families working in partnership to build their futures.
We also broke ground at Landes Terrace, our new 14 home neighborhood in Port Townsend. With this milestone, we reached a historic point for our organization. For the first time, we had 20 homes under construction at once. This record-building year reflects both the deep need for affordable housing in our county and the strength of this community for stepping up to meet that need
To that end, plans for 138 homes at the Mason Street neighborhood in Port Hadlock advanced significantly. This future development will serve our neighbors and expand pathways to affordable homeownership for families who cannot find a stable, affordable home in our local market.
Thank you for joining Bill, Ann, Derrick, and hundreds of other donors, volunteers, and homebuyers in believing in what community can build
